What should I ask my child after a Creative Playground STEM class?
November 23, 2022
If your child is anything like mine, they come home from their STEM class bubbling with excitement and new knowledge. As a parent, it is important to keep the momentum going after class is done. Here are a few tips on how to get your child talking about their day and make sure they're excited to learn more.
1. Make time
Your child will be very eager to share what they have done in class. There is no point in being the only one eager and wanting to share, so make sure you have time to listen. It all starts here, showing genuine interest in what your child learnt.
2. Ask, ask, ask
Ask open-ended questions that begin with "How ..." or "What ...". These questions promote thought and longer answers than just yes or no. For example "What was your favorite part of today's lesson?", "How did you solve the problem you came across?"
3. Be supportive
There will be a time your child may be embrassed about something they did or tried. This is an opportunity for you to show them that mistakes are an essential part of learning and being open minded towards diffent viewpoints is essential for growth.
4. Model inquisitiveness
Expand their learning further by sharing what you know around a STEM topic. Not only will this show your child that you value their interests but it might also plant some seeds for future investigations on their own!
Thank you for being on this journey with your child!
